Debbie makes her homemade preserves in the village of Newdigate near Dorking, Surrey. Her garden is not substantial but with a good-sized vegetable patch, two large glasshouses, orchard and soft fruit cage. Whenever possible home-grown fruit and vegetables are used to make her traditional and more unusual range of preserves.
Living in a beautiful rural area means Debbie has access to hedgerow ingredients. Wild elderflowers in the spring and blackberries, sloes, crab apples and rosehips in the autumn, which are used in her jams.
There are no artificial colourings, preservatives or flavourings in her Jams, which are superior and can be labelled “extra Jam” as they are made from at least 50% fruit. The preserves are made in small batches; the ingredients are hand cut and mixed with good quality sugars and vinegars. The chutneys are slow cooked and matured before sale to ensure a good flavour. All the preserves will keep for up to a year without opening, once open they can be stored in the fridge.
