Our ethos is one of simplicity, with low intensity, low stocking rates and the minimal amount of additives to ensure healthy stock. Our ducks (including our laying ducks), turkeys and geese arrive as day old chicks and spend the first few weeks in our brooder and airy barns developing to be strong enough to go outside. Both types of our chickens arrive with us when they are a bit older. However, all our animals have the opportunity to roam around the fields.
Our sheep, a flock of 61 North of England Mules and our two rams (Texel and Suffolk), are a relatively new addition to our farm. They are grass fed and outside all year round, apart from a short period during the lambing season when they need to be indoors for monitoring and some extra food. We aim to finish our lambs on grass only, however we may feed them for a short period of time to ensure a quality finish.
All slaughter of our poultry is done on the farm, in some instances the animals only have a few yards to travel, reducing the stress on the bird. All butchery, preparation, making of sausages and burgers and packaging is done on the farm. Whilst we do not have the facilities to slaughter our lamb, hogget and mutton, all butchering and packaging is done on the farm.
